    Description

This 1883 Hawaiian Silver Dollar grades Choice AU++, it has just a little light wear. Nice Hawaiian Silver Dollars are very tough to locate. This is a flashy coin with some nice cartwheel luster showing on the rims, and it is well struck. It is a toned coin, with tons of eye appeal and some very neat colors, especially on the rims. It looks to be an album toned coin. The surfaces are very nice with no problem marks or hits of any kind, just some little ticks and chatter scattered about, and one little old fully toned over scrape at 5:30 on the obverse rim. This is a tough coin to find, and especially so this nice and in this grade. These coins were struck at the San Fransisco Mint in 1883 for the Kingdom of Hawaii under King Kalakaua I and they bear his portrait. Only 500,000 circulation strikes were struck at the San Francisco California Mint (Without Mint mark) from November 17, 1883 through June 1884. The reverse legend "UA MAU KE EA O KA AINA I KA PONO" means "The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness." These coins were designed by Charles Barber. After Hawaii became a U.S. Territory in 1900, the legal tender status of these coins was removed and the vast majority of the Silver Dollars were withdrawn and melted. As a result, finding nice examples like this coin is very tough to do. It would easily take 3-4K to purchase a low Mint State coin. Here is a coin that represents a great value in this grade. This is your chance to obtain a very nice coin and a neat piece of history. Just a very desirable coin in every way. This coin would make a welcome addition to a high grade set. I have included a greatly enlarged high resolution digital photo for you to evaluate for yourself. The coin pictured is the exact coin you will receive, I never use stock photos. So take your time, view the scan or photo, and buy with confidence.
