    Description

For sale is a Northwest Coast Haida Button Blanket with a Raven Crest. Button blankets are used in Potlatch ceremonial dances to convey the clan crest.
This blanket is adorned with 300 - 400 mother of pearl buttons around 3 sides of the blanket as well as the Raven Crest Image. Crests acknowledge and record the ancestry and rank of the clan and family members. The blanket is sewn with 3 felt panels. Three side of the blanket are sewn (one unsewn).
Ravens are one of the most important creatures of NWC mythology known as the "transformer and trickster" who created the world. Full of magical and supernatural power, Raven could turn himself into anything anytime.  Raven is one of two Haida crests.   Today, many artists like to feature the raven image in their art.
The measurements are 70 X 46 inches and the raven image is 34 X 29 inches.  The blanket is in good condition without any rips or tears, there is some surface dirt and dust on the right side of the felt otherwise in general good condition.
